A Spider's Tale

A Spider's Tale is a level based runner using the PlayStation Move peripheral. The game was developed in the PhyreEngine for PlayStation 4 during the Game Lab course of the International Game Architecture and Design study program at NHTV University.

The game consists of a Diabolo-like rope which the player controls on both ends using two Move controllers. On the rope is a spider which can be bounced around by throwing the rope in different directions. The rope moves forward across a linear stage which has pickups (other spiders) and obstacles scattered around the track. Hitting a spider will add it to the rope, forming a 'ball of spiders', while hitting an obstacle will cause the player to lose a spider. The aim of the game is to collect all of the spiders before reaching the end of the level.

For this game I worked on the collision checking and the rope physics, as well as other general gameplay tasks. We decided to use PhyreEngine so that we could try out a different engine that we were not yet familiar with.
